SL17: The Path Light That’s Hiding in Plain Sight
By Patrick Harders, LC
Most path lights draw attention to themselves. The SL17 was designed to do the opposite.
The SL17 Hidden Path Light offers unmatched performance in a discreet, low-profile design. Designed from the ground up, it provides soft, controlled illumination without drawing attention to itself.
Engineered on Reliability
When I designed the SL17, I began with the proven internals of the SL02 In-Line Light and adapted them to a low-profile form factor that fit seamlessly into path light applications. Four revisions later, the SL17 is better than ever. It’s become a favorite among designers and installers seeking performance without visual clutter.

Here’s what makes the SL17 a job site staple:
-
Low-profile body that blends seamlessly into the landscape.
-
Extended, adjustable shroud for full glare control.
-
96 CRI for soft, natural illumination without hotspots or harsh beams
-
Mounting that stays in place, even in high-traffic zones.
Its form disappears into the landscape. Its light transforms the space without revealing the source.
It’s Not Just Hidden, It’s Locked In
Anyone who installs lighting regularly knows the pain of path lights that shift, tilt, or come loose over time. That’s why I made sure that the SL17 is available with the options of our standard Canadian-made ground stake, surface mount, or the spike mounted version. Whether it's installed near sidewalks, driveways, or other high-traffic areas, this luminaire will hold its ground.
You’ll find the SL17 in places such as:
-
Historic properties where minimal visual disruption is essential,
-
Boxwoods and low hedges where traditional path lights feel intrusive,
-
Docks, patios, and walkways where glare control is critical,
-
Creative placements, including softly illuminating an address plaque or stone wall.
Sterling Crafted
At Sterling Lighting, we’re not interested in chasing trends. Our focus is on solving real problems with thoughtfully innovative solutions. I designed the SL17 to reflect that philosophy. It’s subtle in appearance, exceptional in performance, and built with the installer in mind.
